Our Specialties
Articulation or phonological disorders may include difficulties with the motoric production of speech sounds, resulting in errors like substituting, distorting, omitting, or adding sounds in words. This interferes with how clearly they can be understood.
AAC can be signs, gestures, pictures, core vocabulary boards or speech generating devices. We are LAMP (Language Acquisition through Motor Planning) certified through the Center for AAC & Autism
A spoken language disorder represents a persistent difficulty in the acquisition and use of listening and speaking skills across any of the five language domains: phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics
A fluency disorder is an interruption to the flow of speech that can negatively impact an individual’s communication effectiveness, communication efficiency, and willingness to speak.
People with fluency disorders may experience psychological, emotional, social, and functional impacts (Tichenor & Yaruss, 2019a). Others may be indifferent to or proud of the way they speak.
About Us
Elissa Norton, MA CCC-SLP
LAMP Certified Professional
I earned both my Bachelor’s degree (2007) and Master of Arts degree (2009) in Speech-Language Pathology from Central Michigan University. I also hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and maintain my Alabama license in Speech-Language Pathology.
I bring 16 years of experience working in public school settings, primarily with children ages 2 to 13. Much of my career has been spent in Title I schools, where I had the opportunity to support a diverse group of students, including many bilingual learners. Through this experience, I have developed a strong skill set in treating speech sound disorders, language disorders, autism spectrum disorder, stuttering, and the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
Collaboration has always been an important part of my work. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working closely with Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Audiologists, Vision Specialists, Psychologists, Special Education Teachers, and fellow SLPs. These partnerships have given me a well-rounded perspective on supporting the whole child and their families.
What sets my practice apart is my LAMP (Language Acquisition through Motor Planning) Certification through the Center for AAC and Autism. Supporting individuals who use AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) is a true passion of mine—I love helping non-speaking children and individuals find their voice and connect meaningfully with the world around them.
My therapy is always child-centered, following each child’s lead to create sessions that are natural, engaging, and motivating. I embrace a neurodiversity-affirming approach, recognizing and celebrating every child’s unique strengths. By staying grounded in the latest research and evidence-based practices, I ensure therapy is both compassionate and effective.
